California Pepper Spray Law For State, Local and Federal Buildings

(Sonoma County, CA)

Is it legal to carry pepper spray into a county, city, or federal buildings that do not have a "security checkpoint"?

We service kiosks at local jails and want to make sure we aren't breaking the law...Thanks!

Pepper Spray In Federal Buildings
by: Admin

Federal buildings restrict pepper spray along with guns, knives and nearly anything else that can be used as a weapon. It makes no difference if the building has a "security checkpoint" or not.

As to county and state buildings, I do not know. Local and county buildings would have their own laws and it would be best to contact proper authorities in that area.

Most states restrict all types of weapons like federal buildings. I would think California would have the same laws. You can contact the security department at the building you will be visiting and they should be able to give you an answer.

You may want to contact each facility and see if you can work out permission for you and your employees to carry pepper spray. I am sure you will not get permission in all locations, but it's worth a try.

Please Note: I am not a lawyer and am not giving legal advice. I would contact an attorney for any legal advice before proceeding with anything that could be considered risky or illegal.
