A fire & burglary safe is not a high security safes, but they do have additional features that would prevent most burglars from getting the safe open. On many of these safe you will find something called a glass relocker. This may be mounted in one of many places within the safe door, but usually is mounted between the in front of the lock. The glass plate has a hole through it and a cable attached through that hole which holds back a secondary spring loaded lock. If a burglar attempts to drill to the lock they will hit the glass, release the cable and set off the secondary lock making it even more difficult to open.

Most fire burglary safes have a 2 hour fire rating which may be rated by one of several companies. The best rating is the UL 2 hour fire rating, but others such as the KS are common and have similar testing procedures.
