Sig 229SCT Self Defense Pistol
by Joe K
Thru the years I have had the opportunity to utilize many different firearms for concealed carry. One of the simplest questions to remember and ask is "how large of a self defense pistol do I need". The size of the gun you choose is relevant to your physical size. Simply put, the larger your physical size the easier it is to conceal a weapon. Just because you are large or smaller in stature there is no need to go overboard. Important things to remember are; will this projectile over penetrate the intended target? What is beyond the intended target? Is the pistol I chose reliable?
After many years I have found the 9mm parabellum to be sufficient with at least some training. I highly recommend to new shooters to take a or even a few self defense pistol courses. If you can't hit the target the gun doesn't matter. You may as well be throwing stones.
My choice is the Sig 229SCT. Being of large stature (6'3" and 220 lbs.) I can easily conceal a mid size pistol. A well placed shot from a 9mm will stop almost any would be attacker. Always spend the extra few dollars and purchase quality self defense ammo. It will make a difference, and will also provide peace of mind. I find it better to be prepared for a day I hope will never arrive than not to be prepared, or have a gun that doesn't go "boom", when you are protecting yourself of family.
